This weekend is quite a busy one in and around Glasgow. As a Southsider, the big event must be Pollok Family Day. It’s an institution really. This year it falls on the 6th of August, and if you intend to go to the all day event in Pollok Country Park, make sure you go for as much of the day as you can.
Pollok Country Park is rather large and the events for the day are spread out -there’s a bit of walking/courtesy bus riding involved and if the weather is remotely good, the progress will be slow because of the number of people who tend to come. Expect stalls, facepainting, lots of activities, bouncy castles and rides, heavy horses, Highland coos, music and much much more, all in the beautiful settings along the White Cart in this gem of a city park.
Also in the Southside on the same day (6th August) is the Gorbals Growers Launch Party from 11am to 4pm. There is a new community garden in the Gorbals Rose Garden and volunteers have been busy building raised beds and planting. And now it’s time to celebrate this new community garden. There will be lots of demonstrations (woodwork, flowers, willow weaving) and a children’s gardening competition.
Now, which one of the two will we go to? A tough choice…
